Sadly, he passed away at the age of 11 and his devastated family held a funeral at the church and also published an obituary. His father still felt there was something more that they could do to honour his son. The ernest father created a gravestone in his son’s memory that shows a young boy rising from his wheelchair, away from worry and deformity. The tombstone stands at Mathew’s burial place in Salt Lake City Cemetery.
Also, in Mathew’s memory, the family decided to start a nonprofit organization ‘Ability Found.’ This has been opened to provide assistive equipment to people with disabilities like spinal bifida, cancer, spinal cord injuries, stroke, and multiple sclerosis.
